A. Overview and Rationale

In Giles County, there is a great need for heightened awareness and cultural literature. In this multi-disciplinary project, students will collect various types of Giles County folklore, transcribe texts, and synthesize the material into a published booklet. This folklore booklet will be made available to area libraries, all county schools, andd Giles County Chamber of Commerce.

A primary focus of this project will be to incorporate many subject areas in to the folklore publication project.

Further, the project clearly supports the following English objectives from the Virginia State Standards of Learning:

11.4 read a variety of printed material
11.7 write in a variety of forms
11.9 research, analyze, evaluate, and synthesized information from a variety of sources
