SETS Goals

The goal of SETS is to design, implement, and institutionalize quality curriculum-based service learning programs that:

• emphasize citizenship knowledge and skills;
• create strong, sustainable partnerships between schools and communities;
• effect long-term curricular change with equal input from teachers and the community;
• demonstrate capacity for replicability;
• create service-learning training capacity among teachers and within communities;
• engage students, teachers, and community agencies in planning specific service learning projects;
• foster classrooms where students are active, participatory learners; and
• integrate service learning experiences into each district's social studies program of study for grades 7-12.
